A wa.me link has the number in it, and, if you want, a message. Tapping it opens WhatsApp with your business chat ready. Nothing is sent until the customer taps send.
- The number is in international format: country code first, with no plus sign, spaces or dashes.
- The message is URL-encoded, so spaces and line breaks survive the trip.
- The customer sees the message as a draft and can change it before sending.

What is a wa.me link?
A wa.me link is WhatsApp’s official click-to-chat link. It looks like https://wa.me/919876543210 and opens a chat with that number. Add ?text= followed by an encoded message and the chat opens with that message ready to send.
How do I write the number?
Use the country code followed by the number, with digits only: no plus sign, no leading zeros, no spaces or dashes. For an Indian mobile number that is 91 and then ten digits. This tool does the formatting for you.
Will the message send by itself?
No. The customer sees your text as a draft in the chat box and has to tap send. They can also edit it first.
Does the QR code expire?
No. The QR code holds the link itself, not a short link that depends on our servers, so it keeps working for as long as the WhatsApp number does. If you change the number or the message, make a new code.
Does it work with the WhatsApp Business app and the API?
Yes. A wa.me link works with any number that is on WhatsApp: a personal number, a number on the WhatsApp Business app, or a number connected to the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Do you store my number or message?
No. The link and the QR code are made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our servers or to a third-party QR service.
Does a customer starting a chat cost me anything?
